Once we look closely at the behavior of orangutans, we will see that they are quite
amazingly human-like. Orangutans are characterized by such incredible skills as the use of their own highly developed language and the ability to teach, imitate one another, and even to plan their actions ahead and cheat others! They also possess amazing emotional abilities. Just look at the orangutans in this video – all they want in that moment is just someone to hug!
Very similarly to people, orangutans make strong emotional bonds with others and need physical affection. The babies cling to their moms for dear life and huddle all together with their little friends. It gives them the feeling of comfort and safety. It’s just so nice to give someone a hug!
Sadly, the orangutan population is currently in severe danger. Due to the development of the palm oil industry, their natural habitat is being destroyed, leaving orangutans with no place to live, forcing them to face certain death. The process of deforestation is a direct result of the huge demand for palm oil which is chiefly an ingredient of a great number food products. We are happy to report that the orangutans in the video above are currently safe from the threat of deforestation, thanks to the efforts of International Animal Rescue. All of these sweet hugging primates are safe in the care of their sanctuary and will, hopefully, one day return to the wild jungle.
