Before we dive into this video, it’s important that we know the cast of characters.
Two weeks before Brody the steer got to Hooves and Paws farm animal rescue, a baby goat named Simon showed up on the scene. Simon was rescued en route to slaughter, but luckily got swept off to the Hooves and Paws animal shelter instead. Brody’s mother arrived at the sanctuary a few weeks later and unfortunately died giving birth to him. Scared and alone, Brody cowered in the barn. That is until Simon came in and met Brody. Kathleen from Hooves and Paws described it like this, “the goat met the calf face to face. Simon and Brody stared each other down for what seemed like an eternity… they said hello with joy and love and head butting!”
Simon and Brody became fast friends and then, Brody became the socialite of the farm. He now prances around the reserve bringing joy and cheer to the other rescued animals who are feeling lonely. Brody and Simon’s friendship is important for two reasons. First, it shows the powerful effect love and companionship can have on all of us. But secondly, and most importantly, this story teaches us that animals have feelings; that they can forge deep emotional connections with each other and with humans.
