a Therapy Dog

Therapy dogs are certainly one of the world’s most unheralded heroes. From children’s
hospitals to nursing homes to veteran centers, therapy animals brighten up the lives of people at all kinds of facilities. The relationships are mutually beneficial too and often open up people’s eyes to the amazing abilities of animals. In fact, studies have shown that animal companionship, even visits with animals, can be beneficial for the elderly.
And that is exactly what’s happening at the Milford Manor Nursing  Home and Rehabilitation Center. As seen in the above video, Mel is the nursing supervisor at the nursing home, but his job doesn’t stop there. Mel also volunteers with Special Needs Animal Rescue & Rehabilitation (SNARR) and takes care of dogs with special needs, including sweet Gemma.
Gemma is a senior dog who is diabetic and is insulin dependent. Gemma was used as a breeder dog and when the cruel person who owned her was done with her, she was left tied up in the backyard and forgotten. But that’s not the case anymore. Now Gemma is in the caring hands of Mel and enjoys lots of treats and belly rubs, never having to worry about being discarded again. This sweet pup may be a senior but that doesn’t stop her from bringing smiles to everyone at the nursing home. All of the people who come across Gemma instantly brighten up.
