Sea Turtle in Recovery After Passing 100 Pieces of Plastic in Stool

Sea Turtle
rescued sea turtle in Boca Raton has been in recovery after passing 100
pieces of plastic in her stool. The turtle was in the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center for hook removal surgery.
Zatanna, the turtle, began passing significant amounts of plastic debris in her stool. Scientists found bottle caps, zip-lock bag pieces and pieces of plastic spoons and forks.
In a post on Instagram, the center shared photos of the plastic. The caption was a warning against plastic pollution. It read, “You can’t always judge a book by its cover! This turtle was recovering from a simple hook removal surgery when it began passing large pieces of plastic debris. Over the course of a week, Zatanna passed over 100 pieces of plastic in her stool. These objects included bottle caps, pieces of cutlery, garbage & zip-lock bags, and large plastic shards. This turtle was likely foraging in open water where floating mats of trash are sadly becoming the norm. We must take a stand by refusing single-use plastics!”
